Contemporary People Management
Question: Write an essay on "Occupational Health and Safety". Answer: Introduction: The common explanation of the Occupational health and safety knew as (OHS) is the general explanation of the workplace health and safety (Rothmore and Boucaut 2015). This is in concern because the employees work in the certain situation that may be hazardous and is a violation of the basic rights of the workers. The concern not only limited to the employees or the workers who are enrolled for such job (Reese 2015). Rather this is the concern with the family members who may get the hazard due to the same and the consumers may get affected with the environment. Discussion: The discussion of the OHS is a high priority because it has been observed in Australia that in the years coming there will be huge numbers of death that are related to the negligence of the OHS. In one of the research, it is even found that the number will reach even beyond 24,000 within the next coming year by 2040. The society views such problem with the inspection of the accident rather treating them as the criminal cases. When there is a clear act of such negligence which I the OHS Act commenced from the year of 2009. Even before the Act came into force, there were some of the issues related to safety measures which the corporations were bound to follow. Even there are numerous issues with the concern which the country faces. One of the main issues is with the James Hardie corporate misbehavior. It was clearly mentioned in the fact that the workers exposed to the asbestos. The situation was not enough for the society to treat it as the murder. Rather it was just observed as an ac t of negligence, and there were hardly any difficult rulings done for this matter (TAYLOR and MURRAY 2013). There is always an issue to observe the same with the view of a mere incident, and this gets in repeated form. The lack of the criminal prosecution makes the repeat the same mistake without any least concern that it is a violation of the safety rights and above all it is a violation of the human rights. Recommendation: Concerning the discussion held here it is a high time that the must be a recommendation to put forward for reducing such hazards. The workers, as well as the corporation, must be aware of the safety rights with proper implementation of the rules. There is an act of OHS, which the worker must be aware so that they know their rights (Carey et al. 2014). The act defines and mentions the rights with the payment of damages regarding the compensation. The work place hazards must be taken care of by the concerned organization. The action must be implemented concerning the industry, agriculture, construction, service sector, extraction of the hazardous substance in the environment. The concern extends to the healthcare as well as the social assistance since the concern is not limited to the workers. So, it is highly recommended for the organization to take the Corporate Social Responsibilities(CSR) within the matter of concern and the profit-making policy, and mentality must have the general aspect rather than the personal aspect. CSR is one of the regulatory measures taken by the company along with the OHS so that there is a balance between the industrialization as well as the environment sustainability (Asif et al. 2013). The concerned management of the company must look and identify the hazard so that they can make an assessment of the risk related to such factors. The identification of the risk includes the hazards where there will be classification o the acceptable risks with the satisfactory manners in concern and discussion of the workers. It is highly recommended to treat some of the incidents like James Hardie to look in the concern of the criminal aspect, and the prosecution must be followed with the reference of the criminal prosecution. The society is the consumer of the corporations and the business entity. Making the profit in the personalized factor alters the basic rights of the customer which w do not understand due to the lack of the awareness. Conclusion: The conclusion drawn from the discussion is that if we do not take measures in the coming future, then the assumption made of the death will be in no time come as the truth. Exposing the workers knowingly in the hazardous situations is one of the deliberate mistakes that the company makes. The society must be aware of the same and must not allow passing the acts as mere incidents since the effect is not limited to the workers, but the family members even get its effect. When the workers are exposed to some hazardous situation, then the consumers even gets the exposure that violates the Corporate Social Responsibility.
